Sally's full story: navigating grief, resilience, and growth
Welcome to my journey, a deeply personal account of love, loss, and the unexpected twists life throws our way. Here, I share my raw experiences, not just to recount events, but to illuminate how grief reshapes us, revealing old emotional habits and the profound impact of our childhood upbringing. Join me as I navigate the complexities of bereavement, chronic illness, and raising a family amidst it all.

The unexpected path: a journey of profound lessons
My most significant learning curve came at twenty-nine, pregnant with our first child, when life dealt a series of unexpected blows. I found myself navigating a gravely ill husband, contending with blame-filled in-laws, enduring a hospital wedding, and facing three harrowing near-widowing experiences. Each moment, each challenge, forged the path that ultimately led to the book I am now writing. These experiences taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, love, and the strength we find when we believe we have none left.

My unique fight: cfs/me, motherhood, and moving forward
Amongst the intense challenges of losing my husband, I've also navigated the complexities of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) while raising my two beautiful daughters. This unique combination of grief, chronic illness, and solo parenting has tested me but has made me a greater person. Yet, I want to highlight a crucial message: I survived it. And not just survived, but I am still fighting to move forward, to create a meaningful life, and to find joy even in the aftermath of profound loss. My story is a testament to the incredible strength of the human spirit.
My symptoms really affected my life once I had the COVID vaccine - Astrazenica. I was one of the few who got it in Australia before the age limit of 40 was introduced a couple of days after I had my first injection. I was finally returning to a relatively normal work load after having major surgery six months prior. The addition of COVID isolation measures meant I was back up to a 95% work capacity.
The day after I got the injection, I showed up to work, tired but keen. I was putting my first patient into position. We were gowned up for everyone, masked and gloved. The heat was stifling and I was short of breath. I hadn't even managed fifteen minutes into my shift when I felt lightheaded and needed to disrobe and lay down. Something just didn't feel right.
The rabbit hole of symptoms I suffered from, lead to a week off. The following week, after trying to return to work, once again, I felt feint, weak and my limbs were shaking with the effort of standing up. The problem was I was only having symptoms on one side of my body, a suggestive sign of a stroke post vaccination.
I had a venous CT, my worried co-workers professional as I laid and got scanned. I was kept in overnight for observations and an MRI the following day. As the vaccine was so new, no one had known what to expect. I am provaccine, even now. My thoughts lead me to wonder if I'd got COVID without the vaccine, would I have ended up as one of Victoria's statistics.
